New Ram pickup was classy by itself.
Chrysler's truck division has announced plans to introduce a diesel-powered version of the Ram 1500 pickup into the light duty this year. And this will be the only vehicle in its class segment available with this type of machine.
3.0-liter turbocharged V6 is offered based on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and connected to a 8-speed automatic transmission.
Ram has not unveiled details of the specifications for a new truck, but said it would provide the best-in-class fuel economy and torque when it goes on sale in the third quarter of this year.
Engine rated at 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque on the Grand Cherokee, which has a 7400 pound tow rating. Cherokee has a highway fuel economy rating estimated 30 mpg, while the V6-powered petrol when Ram 1500 gets class-leading 25 mpg.
Ram also will offer a diesel engine option for the new Promaster different full-size van, which debuted at the Chicago Auto Show last week.
Although all three Detroit car offers diesel engines in their heavy duty pickups, both Ford and General Motors have indicated they plan to introduce a half-ton of their formation in the near future. Ford has relied turbocharged gasoline engine to deliver a combination of fuel efficiency and power in recent years, while the all-new 2014 GM trucks with V8 features cylinder deactivation technology.
The price for diesel-powered Ram 1500 has not been revealed.
